01/06/2007: Latest news on the New Standard for Customer Service: Following the publication of the Government's response to the independent report by Bernard Herdan 'The Customer Voice in Transforming Public Services' the Charter Mark Team in Cabinet Office is now working with colleagues, Charter Mark holders and key stakeholders to develop a new customer service standard which is aligned with the key drivers of customer satisfaction.

24/08/2005: Making Public Services Serve the Public: [Word 80KB] Speech by John Hutton - Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster to the Social Market Foundation.
The Minister announced plans to build upon the success of Charter Mark, to review the existing Charter Mark scheme and to develop a new customer service standard to encourage and recognise outstanding customer service across our public services. Bernard Herden, Chief Executive of the UK Passport Service has agreed to undertake the review.
It is too early to say what changes will be recommended by the review and the timetable has not yet been finalised. We will plan carefully for any changes to ensure that our stakeholders are kept advised and that sensible transition arrangements are put in place.
27/06/2005: Scottish Education Minister urges Charter Mark take-up: [Scottish Executive website] Scottish Education Minister Peter Peacock urged schools to apply for the Charter Mark standard to help them drive up standards and focus on the service offered.
Mr Peacock said: "I want all schools to deliver a first class service for pupils and parents and the Charter Mark standard is designed to help all public sector organisations focus on delivering excellence. Charter Mark is not about winning a trophy; it is about commitment to ongoing improvement. I hope the schools will use it to drive a change of culture that will help them to become more efficient and responsive to the needs of pupils and parents."
27/06/2005: Cash for schools that put customers first: [Scottish Executive website] Schools across Scotland will recieve a £250 grant if they join a scheme to drive up standards of service given to pupils and parents. Education Minister Peter Peacock urged schools to apply for the Charter Mark quality award to help them drive up standards and focus on the service offered.
