Who can apply for Charter Mark?

Formal Assessment

Formal Charter Mark assessment is open to all public sector organisations, (including organisations providing internal services).

This includes:

A sub-contracted service may be eligible for formal Charter Mark assessment:

  1. In respect of a specific service provided for a public sector organisation, or
  2. In its own right, if at least 50% of the sub-contractor's business is in
    supplying the public sector.

'Partnerships' between two or more public services or partnerships between public services, private companies or voluntary organisations.

Specific organisations detailed below that provide a public service but are not financed directly from public funds:

Whole Local Authorities may now apply for Charter Mark if they wish rather than individual units. Please speak with the assessment bodies for information on a corporate approach.

Self Assessment

Any organisation, public or private can 'self-assess' using the Charter Mark self-assessment tool.
