Sir Richard Mottram KCB, took up his position as Security and Intelligence Coordinator on 14 November 2005.

As part of this role, he will:

The Security and Intelligence Coordinator is the Accounting Officer for the Single Intelligence Account, from which the three Security and Intelligence Agencies are funded. He also acts as Deputy Chair of the Civil Contingencies Committee, supports the Home Secretary in his role as Chair and in the event of any serious incident requiring central government coordination acts as the Government's senior Crisis Manager.

Sir Richard will also chair the Joint Intelligence Committee.

Biography

Richard was previously Permanent Secretary of the Department for Work and Pensions from May 2002.

He entered the Civil Service in 1968 and worked mainly in the Ministry of Defence (MoD), with a spell in the Cabinet Office. His main responsibilities were for defence strategy and policy, and corporate planning for the defence programme.

Since 1992 he has held a number of posts at Permanent Secretary level.

Outside the Civil Service, he is a Governor and Member of the Council of the Ditchley Foundation and a Governor of Ashridge.
