Cabinet Office Board
The Cabinet Office Board steers and manages Cabinet Office business in line with ministerial priorities.
Chair of the Board
The Chair of the Board is Sir Gus O'Donnell, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office. He supports the Minister for the Cabinet Office, to make sure our staff in the Department work as effectively and efficiently as possible. He also acts as the ‘accounting officer’ for the Department. This means reporting to Parliament to ensure the Cabinet Office spends the money allocated to it appropriately.
In addition to his role as Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office, Sir Gus has two other roles:
He is:
- Head of the Civil Service – responsible for ensuring the Civil Service is equipped with the skills and capability to meet the challenges it faces every day, and that civil servants work in a fair and decent environment
- Cabinet Secretary – with overall responsibility for ensuring that the Civil Service provides effective and efficient support to the Prime Minister and the Government
