Advanced manufacturing must be at the heart of UK economic future

28/07/09 | 10:28

Lord Mandelson has today launched a £150 million package to help manufacturers take advantage of emerging technologies. Commenting, Adam Marshall, Director of Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said:

“The future of the UK economy must be built on more solid foundations, and advanced manufacturing should be at its heart.

“The Government's investment is a welcome boost for new technologies, particularly in aerospace, where the UK has a competitive advantage. But growth in high-tech manufacturing and exports will only come together with a business environment that allows high-value manufacturing companies to thrive.

”Over the next decade, the challenge will be to get tax and regulation right, while sustaining investment in infrastructure and skills to support business growth.”
