Guidance for WEEE
The Department published non-statutory Government Guidance Notes for the WEEE Regulations on 28 February 2007.
These Guidance Notes support the WEEE Regulations and cover the obligations placed on producers and distributors of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) in the UK market. They also cover the roles of Local Authorities, the waste management industry, the charitable and voluntary sector and implications for users of EEE, consumers and others.
The Code of Practice for the collection of WEEE from Designated Collection Facilities was published on 28 February 2007. The Code does not modify or interpret any requirement of the legislation. It sets out guidance and principles which will help local authorities or those running DCFs for household WEEE under the Regulations, and producers arranging clearance of those DCFs.
BIS has written to local authorities, producer compliance schemes, distributors, re-use and refurbishment organisations and approved authorised treatment facilities to explain their roles within the WEEE system.
