Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) – UK Implementation

RoHS Directive – UK Implementation, enforcement and compliance

UK implementation

On 11 January 2008, a new set of RoHS Regulations (Statutory Instrument 2008 No. 37) was laid before the UK Parliament to come into force on 1 February 2008.  These Regulations were updated in 2009, when amending Regulations were laid before Parliament on 11 March and came into force on 6 April 2009.  Copies of both these sets of Regulations can be downloaded from the OPSI website (see related links, right).

Enforcement

The UK appointed the National Measurement Office (NMO) as the UK’s RoHS Enforcement body on 1 July 2005.

A decision tree to help determine scope and a frequently asked questions section as well as a useful links page where you can download documents can be found on their website (see related links, right).

Report on compliance approaches

The UK commissioned technical consultants to look at possible compliance approaches for RoHS before the Directive came into force.
