The Manufacturing and Material Unit (MM) – Composites is currently developing closer ties with the UK composites industry.
The National Composites Network is a unique Knowledge Transfer Network jointly funded by government and industry that embraces the entire UK Composites industry and its supply chain. The National Composites Network, (NCN) connects all segments of UK composites expertise, fills key technology gaps for the future and signposts and facilitates end user access to the most appropriate source of assistance. This will enable the development of a national strategy for promoting the composites sector in the UK and abroad. Composite materials (or composites for short) are engineering materials made from two or more components. One component is often a strong fibre such as fibreglass, quartz, kevlar or carbon fibre that gives the material its tensile strength, while another component (called a matrix) is often a resin such as polyester or epoxy that binds the fibres together. Composites are increasingly being used in applications where there is a demand for materials which combine low-weight with high-strength.
