The Marine Team provides the secretariat for the Shipbuilding and Marine Industries Forum, to bring together the industry, unions, training facilitators and government departments. The Forum provides a mechanism for closer co-operation between the various stakeholders in the industry.
The key objectives of the current Forum work programme include improving the competitiveness of the sector and strengthening its technological base, fostering innovation and assisting the Ministry of Defence to implement the commitment to maximize the economic benefits to the UK from defence spending; and enhancing co-operation across government departments, including the regional development agencies and devolved administrations.
