Common Pitfalls to avoid in Export Licence Applications

The Export Control Organisation (ECO) has to return roughly half of all applications to the exporter, either for more information, or because the application has been completed wrongly.

Access a guidance document which provides advice on how to improve your licence applications. The document includes information on what mistakes to avoid, what information you NEED to include and other issues you need to be aware of generally when making a licence application.

The guidance is structured as follows:

  • Introduction
  • Goods Descriptions – completing correctly
  • End User or Consignee Undertakings – completing correctly
    • Definition of Consignees and End-Users
  • Specific Information on Open General Export Licences
  • Specific Information on applying for an Open Individual Export Licence (OIEL)
  • Checklist Summary of Basic Pitfalls to avoid
    • Awareness of exporter responsibilities
    • Technical Documentation
    • Goods
    • Details of earlier or related licences
    • Customs Declarations
    • Your company contact details
    • Completing the licence application correctly
