Customer Service

The Export Control Organisation is a highly customer focused team. We aim, within the constraints of the licensing process, to deliver excellent customer service to all our customers.

Our Customers

The ECO's customers are diverse - they range from:

  •  new to experienced exporters
  • companies operating in a diversity of sectors from defence, telecommunications, aerospace, marine, firearms, security and many more
  • SMEs, sole traders to multi-national corporations
  • Academic and Researchers
  • Private Individuals who own military vehicles or firearms

Understanding and learning from our customers

The ECO works hard to learn and improve as an organisation.

Dual-Use Study

In Spring 2009, the ECO jointly commissioned an independent report with the Trade Policy Unit within the Europe, International Trade and Development (EITD) Directorate of the Department for Business. This study looked at compliance levels and awareness of export controls in the dual-use sector. A summary of the study's findings are available at:

Customer Survey

The ECO runs an annual customer survey. Our next survey is due to be launched in January 2010.

Export Control Advisory Committee

The Export Control Advisory Committee (ECAC) provides a forum for some of ECO's key stakeholders. It provides an effective way of consulting with our customers.
