EU Advisory Group to BIS

The EU Advisory Group was set up in 2008  by Gareth Thomas MP , Minister for Trade , Development  and Consume Affairs, to advise the then Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) on key, horizontal economic issues affecting the European Union, with a special focus on informing the Government's strategy for the lifetime of the next European Commission. It now works closely with Lord Mervyn Davies, Minister for Trade, Investment and Small Business.

The Group's members, include British businesses and business organisations, the Trades Unions Congress, British academics specialising in EU affairs and the main UK consumer organisation. Participation in the Group is voluntary and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is grateful to the Group members for the time and effort they invest in the Group's work.

Current Group members are:

John Cridland, CBI
Daniel Doll-Steinberg, Tribeka
Phil Dryden, Corus
David Frost, British Chamber Commerce (BCC)
Michael Gibbons, Powerfuel Power Ltd.
Peter Holmes, Sussex University
Howard Kerr, British Standards Institute (BSI)
Barry Neville, Centrica
Lucy Neville Rolfe, Tesco
Eve Salomon, Salomon Whittle Ltd
Alistair Tebbit, IoD
Owen Tudor, TUC

The first major publication of the group entitled " EU Advisory Group to Department for Business - EU Economic Policy 2009 - 2014" (see link on the right) sets out recommendations in areas which it believes are vital for future economic policy in the European Union over the duration of the new European Commission and new European Parliament.

Following on from that, the Group has also recently written to Professor Mario Monti, who has been commissioned by the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, to carry out a review of the Single Market, putting forward a range of issues for his review  (see copy of letter below)
