Common Commencement Dates

The Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in December 2004 that Government would extend common commencement dates (CCDs) for all legislation bearing on business.

For areas covered by the CCD initiative, and subject to some exceptions, legislation bearing on business will be commenced only on either 6 April or 1 October each year. Departments and Agencies are also required to prepare an annual statement, issued each January, indicating legislation expected to be commenced on the following April and October dates.

The purpose of CCDs and especially the annual statement, is to help business plan for new legislation and to increase awareness of the introduction of new or changed requirements.
