Cows in a field

In this section you will find information on UK planning policy and planning processes, including details of relevant planning legislation such as the Electricity Act 1989, the Energy Act 2004 and the Transport and Works Act 1992. It also provides details of the key planning issues surrounding the different renewable energy technologies.  You can also find out about the UK public’s attitudes towards wind power.

In addition, you can access an Interactive map of UK renewable energy projects. Using this resource you can locate on and offshore wind farms, solar power schemes, hydro electric and biofuel projects across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales at the click of a mouse.  The site provides descriptions of the projects, along with their status - approved, under construction, operational etc - and their installed capacity.  The site also contains quarterly reports providing separate statistical updates on the delivery of renewable energy schemes in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.  By the end of September automated queries will be available to interrogate the data by technology or region etc.

Guidance on encouraging community involvement in wind energy development and the Onshore Wind Energy Planning Conditions Guidance Note can be accessed via the link below:
