We're creating a single website for everything to do with BIS but, while we do that, you'll find information in three places. > Find what you're looking for
BIS is firmly committed to better regulation and better policy-making disciplines to achieve light-touch, proportionate regulation that achieves its policy objectives without imposing unnecessary burdens on business.
We are working to ensure the principles of better regulation are maintained and developed through the Department's approach to policy making at all levels.
The Department has a strong record on Consultation and Impact Assessment. BIS's practice in these areas has been commended by the National Audit Office .
BIS formerly BERR was the first Department to take forward common commencement dates (CCDs) to provide greater clarity and stability for business. We were also the first to have extended CCDs to all our policy areas in 2006.
Reviews and evaluation of legislation are of key importance to the Department in developing policy and legislation. Currently one in three BIS reviews concerns regulation.
