Website costs, quality and usage

We are committed to transparency about the quality and value of this website.

Cost to set up this site

The cost of the project to create this website (launched March 2010) was £397,000. Taking these setup costs into account, the new service will save £2.5 million over the life of the contract compared to the cost of the contracts it replaces.

The platform was created as a shared service for BIS and its partner organisations, and so will deliver further efficiency savings as many of our partners' sites are merged into this one.

Running costs

2010-11

In the 2010-11 financial year, www.bis.gov.uk cost a total of £635,709 to run.

Over the course of the year the content of 12 other websites belonging to BIS partner organisations was migrated onto the main BIS site. This is reflected in the overall cost.
