Energy

On 25 January 2006 the then Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir David King, joined Paul Golby, Chief Executive on E.On UK, in launching and co-chairing a new 'Energy Research Partnership', a high-level forum of key funders of energy research and development from across the public and private sectors who are working together to enhance the scale, impact and cohesion of UK investments and policies in energy research, development, demonstration and deployment. More information can be found on the Energy Research Partnership website. From January 2008 the position of public sector co-chair passed to Willy Rickett, DG Energy at the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

In a related development, the Chancellor announced in his 2006 Budget Speech the establishment of a new Energy Technologies Institute. The ambition for the Institute is to invest up to £1.1 billion over a lifetime of perhaps 10 years, drawing 50:50 from public and private sector funding. More information about the Energy Technologies Institute can be found on their website.
