The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI)

UKIERI is a new initiative, which aims to create a step change in educational and research relations between India and the UK over the next five years so that in the longer term the UK and India will become each other’s partner of choice in education and research.

The initiative was announced by the Prime Minister Tony Blair during his visit to India in September 2005.  There is a commitment of £10 million from the UK Government, which will be augmented by contributions from business sector and educational institutions involved.

Organisations involved in the Initiative are:-

  • British Council
  • Office and Science and Innovation (OSI)
  • Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)
  • Department for Education and Skills (DfES)
