Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards (DHPA) Scheme

In November 2003, the Prime Minister announced a new £10 million initiative to attract some of the brightest research talent from the developing world to study for PhDs in some of the UK’s top-rated research environments. The scheme has been successfully running for over two years and has raised over £19 million in sponsorship funds.  It has already attracted over 290 of the top researchers to the UK.

This scheme is unique in that it is a public-private funded partnership founded on, and driven by, scientific excellence alone.

The scheme is co-sponsored by the UK Research Councils and BP, Shell, Rolls-Royce, E:On, Scottish Power, Vodafone, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Hutchinson Whampoa.
