HEWITT OFFERS £80 MILLION INVESTMENT IN WORLD-BEATING TECHNOLOGY  -Monday 29 November 2004

National competition for innovation and technology funds launched.

Trade and Industry Secretary Patricia Hewitt MP today offered £80million investment to British business for research and development into the latest world-beating innovative technologies.

November 2004 Competition Status

We are pleased to confirm that 975 Outline Applications were received for the competition for funding of which 166 projects (£96.5m) have been recommended for funding by the Operational Group.

November 2004 Technology areas:

• Design simulation and modelling
  Pervasive computing including networks and sensors
• Micro and nanotechnology manufacturing initiative
• Imaging technologies
• Succeeding through innovation: bio-based industrial products
• Succeeding through innovation: energy technologies
• Succeeding through innovation: waste management and bioremediation
• Succeeding through innovation: smart materials and related structures
• Succeeding through innovation: optoelectronics and disruptive electronic technologies
