Guidance for WEEE page

The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) published non-statutory Government Guidance Notes for the WEEE Regulations on 28 February 2007.

These Guidance Notes support the WEEE Regulations and covers the obligations which they place on producers who put electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) onto the UK market and obligations on distributors of EEE.  They also cover the roles of Local Authorities, the waste management industry, the charitable and voluntary sector and implications for users of EEE, consumers and others.

The Code of Practice for the collection of WEEE from Designated Collection Facilities was published on 28 February 2007.  The Code does not modify or interpret any requirement of the legislation.  It sets out guidance and principles which will help local authorities or those running DCFs for household WEEE under the Regulations, and producers arranging clearance of those DCFs.

BERR has written to local authorities, producer compliance schemes, distributors, re-use and refurbishment organisations and approved authorised treatment facilities to explain  about their roles within the WEEE system.
