SPIRE / HMRC Link - April 2008

NOTICES TO EXPORTERS - 2008/08

  1. The direct link between SPIRE and the HMRC system CHIEF has now been tested. The link will go live on the 16th April 2008. All licences issued from this date will have key information about them sent to CHIEF. This data will then feed into the ALV system (Automatic Licence Verification) and declarations that are made will be checked accordingly.

  2. HMRC have issued:

which outlines more information about the link between SPIRE and CHIEF and the impact on exporters. In particular exporters should make sure that their shipping agents are aware of the changes. A valid Traders Unique Registration Number (TURN) number (12 digit numeric number) needs to completed on the SPIRE application form for the ALV process to work.

  3. For further details of strategic export controls please contact ECO.

This notice is for information purposes only and has no force in law. Please note that where legal advice is required exporters should make their own arrangements.
