Combined Heat and Power

Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the simultaneous generation of heat and power and is a highly efficient technology.  In Government, the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has policy lead, but BERR has a large interest because of its responsibilities for electricity generation and manufacturing industry.

Defra published the Government's Strategy for Combined Heat and Power to 2010 in 2004. This document sets out an overview of CHP, Government support measures for CHP and, progress towards the 2003 Energy White Paper target.

CHP Statistics

BERR publishes statistics on the contribution to the UK energy requirements made by CHP in the Digest of UK Energy Statistics.
