The filling of vacancies for Chief Executives is undertaken as vacancies arise. Chief Executives, who are also Deputy Chairs of their Councils, are full time and are paid salaries within 3 pay bands. They also receive performance pay of up to 20% of salary.

The post of Chief Executive will become vacant when Professor Philip Esler leaves on 31 August 2009.
