Background:

£50 Million competition for R&D proposals under new Technology Programme- 26th April 2004

Science Minister, Lord Sainsbury, in a bid to boost economic growth called upon Britain's businesses to put forward new project ideas for a £50m competition to support technology Innovation.

Speaking to over 500 business leaders, researchers and university academics at the Governments Technology Strategy and Programme Information Day at the Business Design Centre in London, Lord Sainsbury said "We have initially put aside £150 million over the next three years to support research and development and the sharing of technology innovations, areas critical to the growth of the UK economy". April 2004 Technology Areas:

We are pleased to confirm that 431 Outline Applications were received for the competition for funding of which 160were recommended for funding by the Operational Group of which 73 passed at full stage. All successful applicants have been informed.
