Implementing the EU Directive on Unfair Commercial Practices and Amending Existing Consumer Legislation

Starting Date: 14-12-05

Closing Date: 08-03-06

This consultation sought the views of consumer bodies, academics, businesses and enforcement authorities on policy issues relating to the transposition of the Directive and the accompanying draft Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA). The Directive will affect all businesses which supply or market goods and services to consumers. The responses will help us determine the best approach to drafting the transposing legislation and accompanying Guidance. A summary of the responses is below.

Government Response

Below is the Government's Response to the 2005 consultation, announcing what decisions have been taken. It is accompanied by a partial RIA and a piece of research conducted by the Durham Business School on behalf of the DTI.

Further information will be found on our Unfair Commercial Practices Directive policy page
