Why is Sheffield given special treatment?

Sheffield is well-established as a badge of quality. It is an offence to use the word in a way that is detrimental to the reputation or distinctive character of the certification trademark “Sheffield”. It makes sense therefore to require approval before it is used in a company’s registered name or in a business name.
