How business can challenge red tape

Business is a vital partner for BERR in the fight against red tape. We need business to tell us which legislation and policies are too burdensome, too bureaucratic and too unwieldy – those which sound like a good idea but simply don’t work out in the real world.

There are many ways in which business can get involved:

• Give us your views on BERR's simplification plan OR give us your own simplification ideas.
   
• Speak to your trade association. We are in frequent contact with major trade associations. Some of these are represented on our Ministerial Challenge panel. This is chaired by the Minister for Competitiveness and gives business, the Risk and Regulation Advisory Council, the Better Regulation Executive and other Government departments the opportunity to challenge significant BERR policies and regulations as they develop.
  
  
• Speak to your contacts in BERR, including your Business Relations contacts.
  
  
• Respond to consultations on BERR policy and legislation through our Consultations web page.
  
  
• Join a sector-specific group, such as the ‘VIPER’ forum for the automotive industry or others which give business and industry a chance to discuss upcoming regulatory developments.
  
  
• Sign-up for Business Link’s regulation updates to help you prepare for new legislative developments.
  
  
• Join the Small Firms Consultation Database for a chance to comment on new policies with an impact on small business.
  
  
• Monitor EU developments using the Commission's work programme.
  
  
• Become a panelist on the European Business Test Panel (EBTP) for a chance to comment on upcoming EU proposals.
