Micropower Council Annual Dinner

Malcolm Wicks MP,  Minister of State for Energy
IET Savoy Place,  04 June 2008

Malcolm Wicks MP, Minister of State for Energy

I am pleased to be here again, as I know these awards are eagerly anticipated every year. It’s nice to see so many people from the industry here again.

These awards are very important for the microgeneration sector, as they really outline the advances that have been made and reward those organisations and individuals who have really worked hard to invest in the industry.

There are now almost 100,000 microgeneration installations across the UK and the work of many of you here and your cooperation with the Government has helped us make remove a lot of the barriers and make it easier for individuals to install microgeneration.

Through our work to date, we have seen that microgeneration has the potential to play a role in contributing to overall energy use in the UK, and to tackling climate change.

As many of you know, we will be consulting in the summer on the Renewable Energy Strategy and later in the year on energy efficiency and all aspects of heat. We look forward to working together with the industry and to you helping inform these consultations and our future policy.

But for now, let’s enjoy the evening and commend those who’ve contributed to the progress made in the past years.

I’m happy to hand over to your host for the evening, Dick Strawbridge, who through the show ‘It’s not easy being green’ has inspired so many people to get involved and play a part in tackling climate change.
