Diversity Impact Assessment

This Diversity Impact Assessment addresses issues emerging from the process of restructuring the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), and the previous Department of Trade and Industry, between October 2006 and December 2007.

It considers in detail the potential impact of the process in terms of race, age, disability, and gender and summarises the actual impact and outcomes of the process in diversity terms. Consideration is also given to the potential impact in terms of sexual orientation and religion and belief. The aims of this Diversity Impact Assessment are:

  • to ensure that the implications for equality in all protected grounds are thoroughly assessed as the restructuring process takes place
  • to help the Department identify the impact of activities and to identify and remove or reduce barriers to equality of opportunity
  • to provide assurance that changes needed to mitigate any potential adverse impacts are either identified at the start of the process or are developed and implemented as the process of restructuring is undertaken
  • to maximise potential positive impact of the process and to identify scope for eliminating potential negative impact or increasing positive impact
  • to increase transparency and demonstrate to stakeholders than diversity issues have been addressed in consideration of our policy
  • to capture the Diversity Impact Assessments carried out at Business Group level into an overall Departmental assessment.
