We're creating a single website for everything to do with BIS but, while we do that, you'll find information in three places. > Find what you're looking for
We have experience of working with people with most disabilities. We endeavour to treat all groups in the same way and not to make anybody feel uncomfortable. If necessary we will facilitate without using the Immersive Theatre, or only use one laptop and selected typist per table in the Creativity Lab. This will be discussed and agreed with the event owner. The Breakout Rooms have natural daylight which may suit participants accompanied by a signer.
The Futurefocus booking forms (see How to book an event) request the event owner to inform us if anyone in the group has any special needs or requirements. The filmed material we may show as part of the programme does contain some scenes which include flashing lights. It is important we are informed if any participants have photosensitive epilepsy.
One of our FAQs is "Can Futurefocus cope with disability requirements?". This provides a summary of the key facilities. This is also available in a large type version, on request.
Pre-Event Meetings with event owners are face to face, usually in Futurefocus so they can see the facilities and discuss the approach.
All doors are wide enough to admit wheelchair access. Internal doors are electronically operated with large hit buttons set at low level. Alternatively, the doors can be locked open.
Old scenarios have been reworked to include voice over and text on screen reduced to a minimum. Whether to use film should be discussed with the facilitator in the pre-event planning stage.
Our ways of working have been discussed with BIS's Disability Advisory Group (DAG). If you have any suggestions about how we might improve our facilities please discuss this with the team or notify DAG.
