The Creativity Lab

Futurefocus Session in Creativity Lab.

The Creativity Lab encourages all participants to express their views freely as the facilitated process and technology allows all participants to preserve the anonymity of each idea. Therefore, every idea will be discussed and considered on its merits, allowing group ownership of actions and true teamwork to take place.

An example of a session in the Creativity Lab might be a brainstorming activity aimed at getting the participants to agree on their vision of what is changing that will affect their work and how the group can move forward from their current state. The group's ideas will be collected using the software. Individuals submit their ideas and the system collates them to produce a single list. This will be followed up by facilitated discussion in groups, possibly consisting of categorising or voting on the list to produce an initial priority order. The priority order will be refined by further activities. At the close, the event will have produced a list of tasks together with actions and indication of potential owners.

"The Lab has been instrumental in encouraging members of my team to open up and brainstorm productively"
"Speed of capture of ideas"
"Absolutely. The futurefocus@dti lab has been instrumental in encouraging members of my team and colleagues to open up and brainstorm 'productively'; this includes a couple of quiet and quite shy individuals"
"Lots of fun! Facilitators extremely helpful and kit enabled us to get at people's views very fast. People felt much freer to express their views using the IT equipment than they would have done verbally"
"The write-up was also very useful as the basis for a further planning document"
"Think-tanking - doing this quickly and benefiting from a facilitator freeing up the chairperson of my forum (myself) to fully participate"
