The eight Research Councils, all of which are executive non-departmental public bodies to which appointments are made by BERR Ministers, are likely to have between ten and twenty vacancies over the next twelve months. These will mostly be for senior academics with relevant research experience, or for people employed in companies that make use of academic research or employ those with research experience. Vacancies are usually advertised in January/February and September/October each year.

The Councils fund research, postgraduate training, knowledge transfer and public engagement activities in their fields of: arts and humanities; biotechnology and biosciences; engineering and physical sciences; economics and social science; medicine; the environment; particle physics; and astronomy. One Council runs a range of large facilities for use by researchers.

Further information and links to each of the Council's web sites can be found on the UK Research Councils main site.
