DFES: The R&D budget is the figure supplied to ONS for the 2005-06 Government R&D Survey.
DFID: The R&D budget is £128m with £83m to be spent on multilateral and joint funded programmes.
FSA: The R&D budget is an estimate. FSA does not ring fence an R&D budget to ensure that it retains the necessary flexibility in its programme activities to help meet its aims and objectives. As default, FSA procures all of its R&D by open competition.
HSE: The R&D budget includes conducting extramural research into issues relating to the nuclear industry. It also reflects the continuing high cost of operating the Health and Safety Laboratory, coupled with reduced budgets and financial pressures.
HOME OFFICE: The Home Office does not have a baseline budget for research. However, historically it has performed well on research spend with small businesses, amounting to around £5m (approximately 25% of extramural research) each year since 2003. The Home Office is currently restructuring as a result of Machinery of Government changes; consequently it is not possible to accurately estimate R&D spend for 2007/08. However, it anticipates a total research spend of approximately £64 million (NOTE: This figure includes funding for National Offender Management Services and Office of Criminal Justice Reform which are both now part of the new Ministry of Justice.) The Home Office anticipates it will continue to exceed Government targets on spending with SMEs during 07/08.
MOD: Please note that these are planning figures and are subject to adjustment depending on the MODs budgetary position.
