OGEL Checker: New Web-based Search Tool

This new web-based search tool was recently launched to help exporters find out whether there are any Open General Export Licences (OGELs) they may be able to use when exporting their goods, software or technology.

What you need before you start
Before you start to use OGEL Checker you must know the Control List entry reference(s), also known as "the rating", that apply to your goods, software or technology. If you don't know the Control List entry already you can probably find it by using our Goods Checker (see below for details).

In addition you will need to check if your company has been informed that an end-use control applies. You will also need to have made reasonable enquires as to the proposed end-use of the items, particularly making enquires if they could be used, or you suspect could be used, for WMD.

When you have entered the rating of the goods and the destination, a list of possible OGELs that you may be able to use is suggested. You then select any one that appears to be appropriate and are guided through the conditions attached so that you can check if you can comply with all of them.

Goods Checker
The OGEL Checker follows the launch earlier in the year of another web-based search tool called Goods Checker. It helps exporters decide whether their goods, software or technology are controlled by UK or EC strategic export control legislation. By entering keywords that describe their goods, the exporter can search against the current UK Strategic Export Control Lists to find the Control List entry, or entries, which apply.

Click on one of the links in the right hand column.  Once you have logged in to one tool, the registration process is very simple, and you can switch between the two Checker Tools to use the search facilities in both.
