ECO: Compliance visits explained

This manual explains to companies why compliance visits occur, what happens before, during and after the visit and some of the penalties companies might face if they are found to be non-compliant.

ECO needs to be sure that an export licence user has the necessary systems and procedures in place to administer open licences, that they are familiar with export control legislation as it applies to their business and particularly circumstances, and that that knowledge is correct and current.

The intention is to demystify the process and allow companies to prepare fully so both sides can get maximum benefit from the visit.

In addition, it points to some specific issues with open licences, which exporters might find helpful.  Click on the link in the right hand column.

There is also a link to the ECO Compliance Code of Practice.

If you find you have breached controls, details of making a disclosure to HM Revenue and Customs can be found on the right.
