To aid user's understanding of the datasets provided, a guidance note has been written to explain how the data were collected, compiled and advice on how they should be interpreted:
In addition, maps have been produced showing average electricity, gas and total energy consumption for Local Authorities in Great Britain.
Follow the links below for access to all available datasets:
Alternatively, instead of accessing each dataset individually, all available Local Authority datasets for 2002 onwards can be viewed in one place by using the Combined Regional Front-end files shown below. Data can be viewed quickly and easily without downloading separate files. Users can filter for individual local authorities or regions as well as comparing several areas at once over any of DECC's sub-national datasets. This can be accessed through the links below.
There are also Middle Layer Super Output Area (MLSOA) combined Front-end documents for 2005, 2006 and 2007. Users can filter for individual local authorities as well as comparing the data from several areas at once.
Due to its size (10MB) the file may take a long time to download. Copies are also available on CD ROM, which can be obtained by contacting Harriet Addison on 0300 068 5037 or by emailing at Harriet.Addison@decc.gsi.gov.uk.
Please note: this workbook requires users to download the file onto your hard drive and "Enable macros" before it will work correctly.
Defra have also released experimental 2006 estimates of local (NUTS4) and regional (NUTS1) CO2 emissions by sector. These estimates have been produced by AEA Energy & Environment (formerly Netcen), using much of the DECC local and regional energy consumption statistics as base data, and are available on the Defra: Emissions of Carbon Dioxide for Local Authority Areas - statistics webpage.
For further information on the regional and local authority data please contact the project manager, Laura Williams on 0300 068 5045, or at Laura.Williams@decc.gsi.gov.uk.
