Biomass

Biomass

The Group first met in January 2006 and has so far considered:

  • Issues relating to equipment and fuel standards and certification
  • The proposed review of the co-firing regulations
  • The Group considered carrying out a review which would look at the most significant routes from fuel to energy (taking account of costs/ support measures, carbon saving and other environmental and sustainability benefits, the practical market potential, comparisons with other emerging technologies).

    Objectives and work plans are for the remainder of 2006
  • Peer review the consultants report on the sustainability and economics of co-firing, prior to publication of the DTI Consultation.
  • Maintain a watching brief on actions resulting from the Biomass Task Force report.
  • Examine implications for biomass technologies in light of the different approaches to changing support mechanisms as they emerge from the Energy Review.
