Emerging Technologies

The purpose of the Technology Strategy Board’s focus on emerging technologies is three-fold:

Providing the opportunity for businesses to take advantage at an early stage of some of the exciting research that is taking place in the science base.

  • To identify research at an early stage which shows real commercial potential
  • To raise awareness of the research with businesses in the UK which have the capability to take advantage of it
  • Through Government support, to help remove the risks of early stage investigation

Three initial emerging technology areas have been selected for investigation:

  • nanomedicine
  • quantum information processing
  • smart and adaptive optics
