VIPER - Listening to the voice of industry

The Vehicle Industry Policy and European Regulation (VIPER) Group is a Whitehall and UK industry stakeholder network of experts, focused on the automotive sector, that provides a joined up approach to the Government's policy and regulation formulation in the UK and the EU; VIPER is a one stop policy shop that gives industry greater opportunities to inform and influence policy and regulatory outcomes.  VIPER delivers:

  • An early warning mechanism on emerging policy and regulatory ideas, particularly those emanating from Brussels.

  • An up to date list of the top twenty key policy and regulatory issues currently bearing on the sector.

  • Collaborative working between Government Departments, whilst engaging with industry,  for the development of policy and regulations.

  • A network of identifiable policy makers across Whitehall who are clearly visible to all stakeholders, particularly industry.

  • Performance monitoring of the effectiveness of the policy formulation process by regular satisfaction type surveys of the stakeholders.

  • Early input of industry views on the impacts of policy and regulatory proposals; providing alternatives to regulation wherever possible.

  • Ensuring proportionate and appropriate implementation of policy and regulations.

  • Providing stakeholders, particularly industry, with a clear understanding of the rationale underpinning UK policy positions.

  • Catalysing the creation of other cross cutting fora in which key policy and regulatory issues can be taken forward in more detail.
