The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) was established in February 1997 under the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) process. ASEF seeks to promote mutual understanding, deeper engagement and continuing collaboration among the people of Asia and Europe through greater intellectual, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions.

7th ASEM Summit in Beijing, China

The 7th ASEM Summit will be held in Beijing, China, from 24-25 October 2008. The summit will be the first gathering of leaders of 45 ASEM partners since its second round of enlargement in 2006. To support this important meeting, ASEF will organise five flagship projects:

  • Model ASEM                                                                                                        
  • Dialogue on Art and Climate Change
  • 3rd Connecting Civil Societies of Asia and Europe
  • European Studies in Asia (ESIA): Book Launch and Panel
  • 4th Asia-Europe Editors' Roundtable

These projects are a demonstration of ASEF’s central role in complementing the ASEM process and cover key areas of interest to the ASEM process. They bring together a broad swathe of civil society including artists, youth, business, academia, research and media, together with government.

I'mPULSE 2008 presents CRACKING BAMBOO INTERNATIONAL PERCUSSION FESTIVAL

I’mPULSE 2008: the 5th Asia-Europe Music Camp presents Cracking Bamboo International Percussion Festival on 15-28 September 2008 in different venues in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia. The festival offers a platform for an encounter between percussionists with “modern” instruments from Europe and their forefathers, the traditional instruments of Southeast Asia, for a musical dialogue in mutual respect.

Call for Participants: 15th ASEF University

The 15th edition of the ASEF University, "The Metropolis in Asia and Europe: Economic Globalisation, Cultural Heritage & Urban Planning" will be held in Macau SAR, China, between 8 - 20 December 2008. It is a two-week academic enrichment programme that enables university students to deepen their insights into contemporary international issues and their significance for Asia and Europe.
