3 January 2007 - Soldier's bravery honoured (2 YORKS) - A Soldier who faced an angry mob of thousands of people in Sierra Leone has been recognised for bravery.  Captain Tony Viney from Gristhorpe was serving with the Green Howards at the time and has been awarded the Queen"s Commendation for Bravery in the New Year's Honours.  Scarborough News.

23 December 2006 - British troops (1 YORKS) Root Out Rogue Iraqi Police - Iraqi police arrested over SAS kidnap - A senior Iraqi policeman who allegedly masterminded the abduction of two SAS soldiers last year was arrested today following a major security operation in Basra.  Read the story here.  The Telegraph.

11 December 2006 - Hero soldier rescues trapped Britons (1 YORKS) - Two badly-wounded British security workers in Iraq have been rescued by a cool-headed Bradford soldier.  Bradford News
 
11 December 2006 - British troops 'plotted to sell guns from Iraq (3 YORKS) - British soldiers in Iraq plotted to smuggle pistols out of Iraq and sell them for cash, a court martial was told yesterday. Four soldiers have pleaded guilty to charges linked to the alleged plot.  The Independent.
 
09 December 2006 - 1,000 troops seize terror suspects (1 YORKS). British troops seized five “most wanted” terrorist suspects in Basra as well as explosives and roadside bomb devices in a series of raids.  The Times

5th December 2006 - Yorkshire Soldier Goes on $1/4 Million Spending Spree (1 YORKS) - Only a month after deploying to Iraq, the 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment is already having a positive affect on local Iraqis’ lives by providing US$¼ million worth of vital improvements to the infrastructure in the town of Az Zubayr, to the south west of Basra City.  Read the full press release here.

20 November 2006Joint 1 YORKS /Iraqi search operation reveals arms cache. A joint operation, led by the Iraqi Police Service (IPS) and supported and facilitated by 1 YORKS, which took place on Sunday 19 November 2006, uncovered a sizeable arms cache in countryside to the south of Basra.  Defence News
