15 December 2006 - Operational Honours and Awards List - Queen's Commendation for Bravery (QCB) - Captain Anthony Russell VINEY The Yorkshire Regiment (2 YORKS).  Captain Viney of  the 2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was awarded for actions carried out whilst in Sierra Leone.  Congratulations on a fully deserved award.  Read more about the story behind the award here Scarborough News.  View the full military list here  Defence News

December 2006 - 1 YORKS soldiers in  daring operation in Basrah City.  A thousand multinational soldiers launched a number of bold 'strike' operations across the north of Basrah city during the early hours of 8 December 2006.  Read the story here.

5th December 2006 - Yorkshire Soldier Goes on a $1/4 Milllion Spending Spree - Only a month after deploying to Iraq, the 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment is already having a positive affect on local Iraqis’ lives by providing US$¼ million worth of vital improvements to the infrastructure in the town of Az Zubayr, to the south west of Basra City.  Read the full press release here.

November 2006 - Joint 1 YORKS /Iraqi search operation reveals arms cache (20 Nov 06).  A joint operation, led by the Iraqi Police Service (IPS) and supported and facilitated by 1 YORKS, which took place on Sunday 19 November 2006,  uncovered a sizeable arms cache in countryside to the south of Basra.   Read the full story here.

October 2006 - The Regimental Journal.  The first first edition of the new Regimental Journal will be published later this month.  It will be issued automatically to all serving personnel in the regiment.  All retired personnel and others who wish to subscribe to the Journal should request a Standing Order Mandate Form and submitiing it to the Editor at RHQ Main.  It will be published in October and April each year at a cost of £10 per annum including postage.  If you would like to contribute an article or advert to the next issue please send it to RHQ Main (preferably electronically) by 1st of March 2007.

October 2006 - Cycle Warrior.  Soldiers of 2 YORKS have successfully completed their 1400 mile (2500 km) sponsored cycle ride arriving in Chepstow on Tuesday 3 October 2006.  The team were met by the Mayor of Chepstow, members of the 2nd Battalion, friends, family and their supporters.  So far the team have raised over £5000 for their chosen charities and further donations and for a more details description of the Exercise visit their website www.cyclewarrior.co.uk  Their arrival marks the battalions imminent return to Beachley Barracks, Chepstow from operations in Bosnia.  Welcome back, a great job by all concerned.

September 2006 - Operational Awards.  Two members of the Regiment have received awards for service carried out between 1 October 2005 and 31 March 2006.  Warrant Officer Class 2 James Edwin ROBERTS has been awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service (QCVS) for service in Iraq.  Major Thomas George VALLINGS has been awarded the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service (QCVS) in Northern Ireland.  Many congratulations to them and thanks for their valuable work.  The full list of awards can be viewed Click here.

September 2006 - Cycle Warrior.  There off and rolling ... Exercise "Cycle Warrior" the sponsored endurance cycling event covering 1400 miles (2500 km) between Bosnia and Wales.  During September and October a 10-man team from 2 YORKS, led by Captain Phil Robinson, will attempt to complete the grueling and dangerous 1400 mile (2500 km) road journey in aid of Severn Area Rescue, Cancer Research Wales (Million Mile Challenge) and The Army Benevolent Fund.  The team are already on the move so give them your support.

August 2006 - Yorkshire Warriors.  Our team of rowers completed their marathon 2800 mile journey crossing the finish line on Friday 25th August.  The 4-man team rowed into harbour to be met by friends, family and soldiers from the 3rd Battalion on Saturday 26th August -78 days after setting off from New York.  During their trip the team managed to raise over £34,000 and contributions can still be made click here.  Welcome back and very well done.

August 2006 - RMA Sandhurst Passing Out Parade.  The first newly commissioned officers into the Regiment marched off the parade square at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on Thursday 11th August 2006.   2nd Lieutenants Andrew Richards, Chris Alphonsus, Andrew Bond and Alex Saunders marked their completion of training at the academy by taking their place on the parade taken by King Abdullah Hussein of Jordan, himself a former cadet 25 years ago.

1 August 2006 - Yorkshire Day.   The Yorkshire Regiment proudly took part in the celebration of Yorkshire Day, alongside up to 100 civic leaders from the county, in Penistone.  Colonel Simon Newton, Honorary Colonel of the Regiment, hosted some of our former Freedom Boroughs' civic dignitaries, most of whom also attended a band concert in the Piece Hall at Halifax.  Music was provided throughout the day by the Band of the King's Division.

July 2006 - Yorkshire Marches.  The Regiment visited most of its former Freedom Boroughs and Towns to request they transfer their Freedom Honours from the antecedent regiments to The Yorkshire Regiment.  At each ceremony, the Borough was presented with a transfer request and a framed plaque containing the Regimental Cap Badge.  The ceremonies took place between Monday 24th of July (York) and Friday 4th August (Settle).  Click here to see the photo gallery.  

Yorkshire Warrior Update.  The team are doing extremely well, currently second place.  They are due to return on or about the 20th August 2006.

ACF Shooting Success.  The first medals to be won by Yorkshire Cadets were collected at the National Inter-Service Cadet Rifle meeting at Bisley in Surrey.  Colour Sergeant Matthew Hill (17), Corporal Tim Peacock (16), Sergeant Gareth Edwards (15) and Coporal Scott Creedy (16) all part of A Company, Yorkshire (North and West) Army Cadet Force took silver medals in the 7.62mm Long Range Target Rifle Shoot, competing against teams from across the UK and national teams from Australia and Canada.  For more information about Yorkshire (North and West) ACF visit: www.yorksarmycadets.co.uk

16th June 2006 - York Races.  Brigadier Malcolm Cubiss CBE MC accompained by his wife Wendy presents the winners of the 2006 PWO Maiden Stakes with prizes on behalf of the Regiment.  It is anticipated that Regimental sponsorship for this race will transfer ready for the 2007 event.

May 2006 - Major General Farquhar, Honorary Colonel of the 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment, presents the newly inaugurated Yorkshire Regiment Trophy for the winners of the annual Roses Match.

May 2006 Regimental Secretary - Lieutenant Colonel DRE O'Kelly appointed as the Regimental Secretary of The Yorkshire Regiment in York.

March 2006 - His Royal Highness The Duke of York to be the Colonel-in-Chief of The Yorkshire Regiment.  The Deputy Colonel-in-Chief to be The Duke of Wellington and the Regimental Colonel to be Lieutentant General JNR Houghton.
