CAREER
After completing the Combat Infantryman’s Course newly qualified soldiers join Worcesters and Foresters as Infantry Soldiers. Once you have consolidated your skills and gained valuable experience, Worcesters and Foresters can then be considered for additional trades and promotion within the Battalion.
The first step to promotion is to pass the Potential Junior Non Commissioned Officers (NCO) Cadre, which is run by a central training team based in Wiltshire. This 7 week course teaches you to lead your first command of 3 other soldiers and marks you out as someone who can attend further promotion courses in different specialties.
There are approximately 200 NCOs and 15 Warrant Officers in the Battalion. In addition there are a number of Worcesters and Foresters serving all round the world on individual postings, so chances of promotion are very good.
Read the individual specialties that are open to Worcesters and Foresters, all of which offer chances for promotion or visit army jobs.

MORTARMAN
The 81mm mortar is the Infantry’s own artillery piece. It can fire explosive rounds out to nearly 6 km and turn the night into day with illuminating rounds. Mortarmen are robust but intelligent soldiers, capable not only of manhandling the rounds but also using lasers and specialist computers to ensure that the rounds land in the right place and at the right time.

ANTI-TANK MISSILEMAN
The Javelin anti-tank missile is the Infantry’s main method of destroying enemy tanks. The missile is remote controlled by the operator for up to 2.5 km. It has a sight that can see engine heat and enables the missileman to shoot at enemy tanks and other armoured vehicles in all weather conditions, by day and by night. The weapon can also be used to destroy enemy bunkers, whilst its sighting system means it can be used to gather information on the movements of people and vehicles in any conditions. Anti-tank missilemen must have high standards of personal camouflage, be able to recognise friend from foe at great distances and have the ability to remain very calm under pressure.
