| A Message from the Principal
Welcome to the Welbeck College Web Site, a site created with the assistance of our students. I do hope you will enjoy looking through our site and that you will find much to interest you in its pages.
In 1953 Welbeck College was established as a residential Sixth Form College, offering young men and women an unrivalled education and start to their career in one of the Uk Armed Forces. Today, the College has grown to become one of the UK's top sixth form residential colleges with an outstanding academic reputation, offering its students, not only a first class 'A' level education but at the same time a unique programme of personal, physical and intellectual development. The whole teaching programme is specifically designed to meet the needs of young potential Officers across the Defence Services.
The College is currently situated at Welbeck Abbey, which stands in the grounds of the magnificent Welbeck Estate. The Teaching Facilities, Library and Chapel are housed within the main building and close by are the Science Block, Dining Room, Technology Centre and sports facilities. Students are accomodated either in the Main Abbey complex or close by in School Lodge or Bursar's Court.
In 2005 the College will relocate to Woodhouse Eaves near Loughborough when it becomes the UK's Defence Sixth Form College. This exciting development will see the college moving into 'state of the art' accomodation and teaching facitilities, fully equipped with the latest technology making the college a front runner in 6th form education. The College will become fully quad-service admitting Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Civil Service students who wish to enter the technology and science branches of their respective service as Officers.
In training terms both academic and military, Welbeck provides the first two years of a carefully structured and distinctive career progression for students, taking them through 'AS' and 'A' level, followed usually by a degree course and then finally on to initial Officer training at Sandhurst, Cranwell or Dartmouth.
We believe that our students here at Welbeck have the opportunity to gain the experience of a lifeftime as part of their training to become the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force or Civil Service Technical/Engineering Officers of the future. I hope this website will provide you with a flavour of the 'Welbeck Experience' and I strongly urge you to visit us in order to tour the campus, meet out students at first hand and to sample the enthusiasm and comitment demonstrated by Welbexians as they start their military careers as Potential Officers in the UK Forces.
I look forward to welcoming you to the College.
