The period from April to June 07 has been a busy and very successful for the battalion. In addition to routine training the Battalion took part in: Ex FIRESTORM 07, 15 (NE) Bde’s Combat Shooting Competition in which the Battalion was the only unit to achieve a Gold award. The team also won the cup as the best Infantry team, with Rfn McKim winning the best LSW trophy. Over the same weekend the Battalion celebrated St George’s Day with a Church Service and Colours parade in Morpeth. Over the period 7 – 9 Jun the Battalion ran on behalf of the RFCAs (Y&H and NE) Ex EXECUTIVE STRETCH 7 – 9 Jun which took place at Catterick. RFCA Y&H described the exercise as “probably the best that they have been involved in over the past 16 years". Of note was the 100% turnout by 103 delegates and a well attended employers’ visitor day. The Battalion’s shooting team also entered the NATO competition held in Edinburgh winning three trophies for: the best British Army team, best indoor shooting on the DCCT and 2nd in the Pistol competition. On the 2 Jun X Coy took part in a parade in Newcastle to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War. Planning continues in preparation for annual training, Ex DRAGON’S DANCE, at Kirkcudbright and Galloway. Finally, the Battalion continues to plan for the mobilisation of a “cohort” in support of Op HERRICK 8 next year.
