The Royal Engineers Even if the saying that the Army 'marches on its stomach' was true it could not function without maps and information about the ground. The Royal Engineers help the Army live, move and fight. 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic) is that part of the Royal Engineers which provides maps, all types of geographic support and geographic advice to the Army.
The Royal Engineers can trace their history back to the Normans, when Military Engineers helped destroy enemy defences like castles and forts. Sappers are involved in every operation in every part of the world and have the motto 'UBIQUE' meaning 'EVERYWHERE'. Royal Engineers are involved in a variety of task which include: bridge building, minefield clearance, demolition and geographic support.
42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic) 135 Independent Geographic Squadron is the only part of the Territorial Army to support the otherwise all Regular Army, 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic). 135 Squadron provides a TA Squadron to expand the capabilities of 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic) in times of need.
