Specialist Units

If you join a Specialist Unit you spend less time training than TA soldiers from Independent Units do. That's because you will have a civilian skill or trade that the Army needs.

Specialist Units are recruited nationally and trained at national centres, and there are specialist roles in areas such as linguistics, media, medical, engineering and telecommunications.

The TA not only provides free training which may help improve your employment opportunities in civilian life, it also pays you for attending training sessions and offers an annual tax free bonus if you achieve the required standards

The commitment is 19 days per year, including 2 weekends per year and 2 weeks annual camp but you are allowed considerable flexibility to commit more or less time according to your needs.

If you want to find out which Specialist Units best matches your civilian skills take a look at our 'Search by Trade'.
