Independent Units

As the name implies the Territorial Army recruits 'territorially' for its Independent Units and around 80% of TA soldiers join their local Independent Unit.

Your local unit might be Royal Signals, Medical, Infantry or one of the other Arms or Services. Within an Independent Unit you are trained first and foremost as a soldier and then you can choose to focus on specific trades and skills that are relevant to your particular units.

Commitment is 27 days per year, including weekend training, 2 weeks annual camp and weekly training evenings. If you do not feel able to make the time commitment to join an Independent Unit, and you have the necessary civilian trade or skill, you can join a Specialist Unit.
