    Under 17 years old?
    In higher education and want to join a military club?
    A student and want to join a TA Unit?
    Medical student, student nurse or training to be a health care professional?
    Professionally qualified/experienced and want to use your civilian training and skills in the TA?
    17 to 32 years and want to learn new and different skills in the TA?

 

Army Cadet Force

It is not possible to join the TA until you are 17 years old. You could, however, join the Army Cadet Force. There are detachments throughout the country and to find out more have a look at the ACF web site.

University Officer Training Corps

If you are in higher education and interested in joining a military unit which fits around your studies then the University Officer Training Corps (UOTC) could be for you. These are University clubs which have great social, sporting and adventurous training opportunities and also carry out military and leadership training.

You join as an Officer Cadet and there is no commitment to stay in the Army after you finish your studies, in fact you can resign at any time. You also get paid for your military training! There are 19 UOTCs across the country and if you would like to know more visit the UOTC pages.

Territorial Army as a Student

Whether you are in the sixth form at further education or technical college or in higher education/university you can join your local Independent Territorial Army Unit. To find out which unit is closest to where you live have a look at the interactive map. You will join as a private soldier but, if you have the aptitude you will have the opportunity, as does every TA soldier, to train for promotion or be considered for a Commission to become a TA officer. Army Medical Services TA

In the Army Medical Services (AMS) two thirds of the staff are Territorial Army (TA). There are lots of opportunities in medical units throughout the country for medical students, student nurses and student health care professionals. You will have the opportunity to work with health professionals from different departments, hospitals and health authorities and expand your knowledge and networking. There are opportunities for career short courses and training in trauma techniques which could help to enhance you student experiences. Visit the TA AMS pages for more information.

You are welcome to join a University Officer Training Corps (UOTC) instead if you wish to join a unit which is also a university club and concentrates on military and leadership training.

Specialist Territorial Army

There are opportunities for many different professions and skills to be used in Specialist Units that recruit nationally. You can find out more about Specialist Units or skills search to find out if you have a civilian trade that we need. There are also opportunities in local independent units for some specialist skills such as medical, engineering, administrators, telecommunications and construction.
